Who is God
Sin to avoid,
Promise to hold
Action to take place
100% obedience , Num. 32:16
When they came up to him and said, "We would like to build pens here us for our livestock and cities for our women andchildren."
The Reubenites and Gadites say they will do their best to the community according to Moses' reproach.
Who is God
God may grant a human heart's wish if it is too eagerly desired.
Moses rebuked the demands of the Reubenites and the Gadites for two reasons: To disappoint the community, to ignore the promise of God's word. The answer that they will fight together with the rest of the Israelites is a 50 percent obedience of compromise. In other words, the answer meant to cooperate with other tribes so that the morale of the community would not be degraded, but it meant ignoring God's promise, Moses agreed with them, But the land on the east side of Jordan that they gained now belongs to Jordan and Islam. The Israelites who lived there would have abandoned or compromised their faith or moved back to Canaan. I have visited Jordan. Smells of cigarettes everywhere and somehow I got the impression that it was a dirty and dark land. The bright, beautiful, and chaste difference was noticed, when we came over to Israel. As soon as we arrived in Israel, the mission team shouted nearly at the same time, How can it be so different! I should put my will down and obey 100%.
Sin to avoid, if there is any human wish that I want badly, put it down.
Promise to hold, God gives us the best.
Action to take place Let down the human will and seek God's will
Dear Heavenly Father, if there's anything I'm looking for according to my own human wish, please enlighten me. Lead me according to Your will, not by my will. I want to be 100% obedient, not 50%. Amen
Don’t be “transjordan.”
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom 12:1-2)
- The sons of Reuben and God lay down their “bold” proposal. In return, Moses lays downs conditions to accept it.
Who is God?
- He wants His children to reach the promise of God by trusting Him and fighting the fight of God.
With the benefit of hindsight, we know these men follow through on their word. It is estimated that they stayed on the west side of the river for about 10 years to fulfill their promise! In that sense and also in a sense that God used this occasion to extend the land of Israel, they may “take some credit.” Fundamentally, however, their heart was off of what God wanted for them. For instance, Num 34 clearly delineates the land for Israel whose eastern boundary lays along the river, thus excluding the Transjordan area.
With their own goal outside God’s goal, with their heart set on outside the heart of God, they worked really hard and even boldly. I have to ask myself a really “inconvenient” question. Is your orientation “transjordan”? What is the way to fix it?
You shall know God’s will toward you is good, pleasing and perfect and choose His will not yours. (Rom 12:1-2) You shall know God’s resources and riches in His calling of you (Eph 1:18). For the first, you need transformation by the renewing of your mind. For the second, you need a spirit of wisdom and revelation.
We go through a season of testing and trials. Are there temptations to go “transjordan”? Resist them with all your strength. MEANWHILE, be still and know His worth and His power and ask for His power to transform you and give you wisdom and revelation.
Lord, help me not settle down in things of the world and help me not go “transjordan” but follow You toward the end. Lord, renew my mind always and give me Your spirit of wisdom and revelation. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen
