OBSERVATION

Summary

Who is God

APPLICATION

• Sin  to avoid,
• Promise to hold,
• Action to take place,

Trust, obey and go forward. Josh. 3:17

17 Meanwhile, the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant stood on dry ground in the middle of the riverbed as the people passed by. They waited there until the whole nation of Israel had crossed the Jordan on dry ground.

OBSERVATION

Summary
The overflowing Jordan River dried up, and the Israeli community crossed the Jordan in accordance with Joshua's instructions.

Who is God
• God works through the obedience of man.
• God is alive and does miracles.
• God fulfills his words

APPLICATION

Joshua listened to God's word and  obeyed the words without compromising. And all the priests who followed Joshua did not compromise either and entered the Jordan river in obedience to Joshua's instructions. They were stepping into the river and stood in the middle of the river with the ark of the covenant until all Israelites crossed the river. The Jordan still overflowed in front of their eyes, but they only trusted the Lord and stepped into the Jordan.

We can't stop the water flowing in the Jordan. However, we can trust God who will make the Jordan dry and obey him completely. In John 11:40, Martha was unable to raise the dead man, Nazaro, but she was able to move the stone that was blocking the tomb, believing in the Lord who would raise the dead.  We can't move the mountain. However, if you fully trust and obey God who moves the mountain, God will move the mountain for us.

This is how the Jordan River dried up. A miracle happened. God stopped the flowing water. Then the two million Israelites crossed the Jordan River on dry land with their wives and livestock. Miracles can take place in communities where God's presence is exhibited. What is the impossible river standing in front of me today? "I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh, is there anything I cannot do?"  There is nothing God cannot do.  Have faith and obey fully, then God will do miracles for His children.

We plan joint service on this Easter Sunday. And after the service, we plan to go out for street evangelism.  The Corona pandemic is not over yet, some may think that the joint worship service, where many people gather in one place, may be  too hasty. However, I would like to declare the resurrection of worship again by faith, as we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord.  Also the Bible said that we should preach the gospel in season or out of season.  Like the priests who stepped into the water, we want to move on even if Corona Pandemics does not end. God will bless and protect all our worship services and street  evangelism on Easter Sunday.

• Sin to void, don't be afraid of what we see
• Promise to hold, God does miracles.
• Action to take place, do not be afraid of circumstances, but only trust the Lord and obey him.

Heavenly Father, like the priests who were not afraid of the overflowing Jordan river and moved forward, we want to move forward without fear of COVID 19.  May the Lord protect all our saints and bless our street evangelism.  Amen

Josh 3:9-17
The Power of the Cross

SCRIPTURE

The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground, until all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan. (Josh 3:17)

OBSERVATION

Summary
- Joshua delivers the word of God to Israel regarding how they shall cross the Jordan (vv. 9-13) and Israel obeys the Word (vv. 14-17): a lesson to remember (10), the ark to go ahead (11), 12 men to choose from the 12 tribes (12), the feet of the priests to dip into the water & the waters to stop (13-16), the priest to stand firm in the middle until all Israel crosses (17)

Who is God?
- He is the God of the covenant.
- He wants us to trust and obey the Covenant. He wants us to carry the Covenant and take a step forward. He wants us to carry the Covenant and stand firm.

APPLICATION

In this short passage, “the ark of the covenant” is used 4 times (5, including the shorter name, the ark at v. 15). The ark should go before Israel but on the part of the priests, they should carry it and step forward and stand firm in the middle of the ground. The covenant we have is the cross He died for us—the truth of God, sealed by His atoning sacrifice (the mercy seat), most heavily guarded and kept most holy by the two Cherubim, whose first manifested job on earth was to keep the Garden of Eden, which is to be fully restored by the coming of the New Jerusalem.

The two angels were found “sitting” where the Lord was once lain and is now resurrected (Jn 20:12)! Bishop Pat explained it as them no longer having to guard the mercy seat because He conquered the devil now!

God says through Joshua to Israel: BY THIS you shall know that the LIVING God is AMONG YOU and He will surely surely dispossess from before you the 7 tribes of Canaan.. (Josh 3:10) The victory for Christian life is only and surely through holding onto the Cross of Jesus, who conquered the death and rose from the dead! SURELY, the Word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God! John, let the Word of the Cross—the Ark of the Covenant—always charge ahead of you. John, always carry the Cross and boast of the power of the Cross! Surely, Christ and Him Crucified is to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, the power of God and the wisdom of God.

What is your boast? Did you absolutely kneel down and weep before the Cross this morning and every morning? You must! It is our most sacred and precious responsibility and privilege to be cherished every day and every second. No matter what the future brings—nobody knows what the future holds for anyone—BY THIS you shall know the LIVING God is surely among us and will be with us to the end.

- Sin to avoid: negligence to look to the Cross and lay down at the feet of the Cross every morning and every second
- Promise to hold: The way of the Cross is the power of God and the wisdom of God to those who are being saved.
- Action to take: Kneel down and weep before the Cross every morning and every second you breath. Boast of the Cross through which He died and resurrected for all of us.

PRAYER

Lord, help me always bow down and weep before Your Cross so that I can truly boast of Your Cross. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen
